Please check your tickets immediately to ensure you ordered the correct date and session. If you made an error, contact the observatory immediately by email starr_peter@hotmail.com or phone 0488 425 940. If you do not turn up at the correct session and have missed it, we cannot issue you a refund.

Our address is 17L Camp Rd. Dubbo. It is 8.5km from the town centre. From Dubbo head south along the Newell Hwy. Turn left onto Obley Rd & drive for 3.3km (do not turn into the Zoo which is also called Camp Rd). Turn Right onto Camp Rd & proceed another 1.3km. We are on the left after rhino lodge and before the Winery. You may see some kangaroo signs. They aren't joking so take your time.

Arrive about 5 minutes prior to start time. If you arrive earlier, the front door maybe locked as maybe conducting a session prior to yours. 

Show your tickets on arrival on your phone. There is no need to print the tickets. Download the tickets & save on your phone before you come as you may not have phone access at the observatory.

The experience is outdoors so please dress according to the weather conditions. In winter it can be extremely cold at night. Please wear as much clothing as you can including a scarf, and beanie. There is no heating outside as it interferes with the clarity of viewing. Check our website on the day and it will provide a forecast of the temperature.

In Summer, it can still be cool late at night so dress accordingly. Best to cover up as we can get some mosquitoes so apply aerogard before coming and wear closed shoes, long pants, long sleeve shirt. 

If you are bringing children, don't let them wear those shoes that illuminate when they walk. They look cool at night but they interfere with viewing the night sky for others.

We do cancel the show if its overcast or raining at the time of the show. We make a decision close to start time. A refund is given. If you are coming by taxi, call beforehand if the sky looks cloudy.

We also may cancel the show if the tour guide is sick, A full refund is issued.

If you wish to cancel for any reason, a refund excluding the booking fee is given if you give more than 3 days notice by emailing starr_peter@hotmail.com

Do not email the ticketing agency, they can only get back to you the next business day at the earliest just to tell you to email me.

If less than 3 days notice is given, a refund is only given if we can resell your ticket.

If you wish to move to another date, 3 days notice is required. If less than 3 days notice is given, we can only move it if we can resell your ticket.

Please see our website under Premium tour on what cameras are compatible and what settings you need to know. We wont have time during the session to work out your camera so important to be prepared. You can bring an SD card or purchase one here if you dont have a camera. Our Camera is modified for Astronomy and gives superior images.

We can do this if its in the sky and bright enough. Please let us know the coordinates at least a day in advance so I can prepare.

Look through the telescopes at different objects. The ones we see are listed on the website.

Point out stars and constellations in the sky.

Take 4 images with your camera if you have one.

Use a pair of binoculars (adults only) and show you a number of objects.

Give you a picture I have taken previously.

Your eyes need to be dark adapted to view objects at their best.

It takes 10 minutes in the dark for your eyes to get dark adapted.

If you look at a white light your eyes lose their dark adaption for 10 minutes.

So don't look at your mobile phone screen, use a white torch or camera flash.

When you look, have your eye a centimetre or 2 back away from the eyepiece. If you see nothing, move your head slightly up and down to get the right angle.

 Do not look directly at the object of interest. Look next to it or wander your eye back and forth across the field of view. You will see objects 5 times brighter and more detail.

The longer you look through the eyepiece the better view you will get, so do take your time.

Everyone's eyes are different, and so what is in focus for one person maybe out of focus for another person. If you wear glasses for distance vision, do wear them, otherwise everything will be out of focus. You can tell a star is out of focus if it has a black spot in the middle of it. If this is the case just let me know and I will show you how to adjust the focus. For the main telescope this can only be done electronically using the computer.

Our eyes do not see colour in dim light. If the object is bright enough you will see colour. You will not see colours in most objects. Cameras do see the colour in dim light.

Binoculars are available for adults only as they are expensive and delicate pieces of equipment and not toys. When using, please have the strap around your neck.

You will be surprised what you can view through them We will give you are tour of the sky with them.

Feel free to lay back on the banana lounges, and rest your elbows on your chest, to help keep the binoculars steady.

This session is limited to a maximum group size of 6 people.  

Talk about what we will see and some basic astronomy.

View the planets (when visible), stars, and galaxies through our telescopes.

Take photos through the telescope of nebulae and star clusters if you bring your own compatible DSLR Camera or SD card to use our canon RA camera. 4 photos per camera, not per person.

One 6x4" photo of an astronomical object taken at the observatory to take home with you. 


The show is outdoors so you need to dress according to the weather conditions.

A  refund for the entry price is issued if you give more than 3 days notice. You must email starr_peter@hotmail.com  The ticketing fee is non-refundable.

If less than 3 days notice is given a refund is only issued if we can resell your ticket.

If the sky is overcast at start time, we cancel the show and issue you a full refund. However if you wish to proceed we can if you wish in case the sky clears.
